Course Overview

Grade 2 Social Studies develops students‘ understanding of communities, government, geography, economics, American history, culture, and the wider world. Students learn through age-appropriate reading, maps, timelines, historical sources, comparisons, problem-solving, and practical activities.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

1. Explain how communities and governments work and how citizens participate responsibly.
2. Use maps, globes, geographic features, and geographic information to describe places and environments.
3. Apply basic economic concepts, including needs, wants, resources, production, trade, saving, spending, and choices.
4. Describe important people, events, and changes in American history using timelines and historical sources.
5. Compare cultures, communities, and ways of life while demonstrating respect for others.
