Course Overview:

This second grade science course builds on foundational knowledge and deepens students’ understanding of natural phenomena through engaging, hands-on exploration. Over multiple units, learners will investigate topics such as:

  • Plant and animal life cycles, adaptations, and ecosystems

  • Habitats, food chains, and interdependence among organisms

  • Earth’s materials, including rocks, soil, erosion, and landforms

  • Water cycle, weather, and climate patterns

  • Forces and motion, including pushes, pulls, and simple machines

  • Energy forms, heat transfer, and light

  • Earth and space, such as day/night cycles, seasons, and solar system basics

  • Matter and its changes, including mixtures and solutions

Through hands-on experiments, observation, modeling, and discussion, students will cultivate skills in asking questions, collecting simple data, making predictions, and drawing conclusions. This course encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and the confident use of scientific vocabulary to explore the world around them.
