Third Grade Science Course

Course Overview

This third grade science course strengthens and expands students’ understanding of the natural world through inquiry-based learning and hands-on exploration. Learners will study topics such as:

  • Ecosystems, biodiversity, and food webs as they explore how organisms interact and depend on each other

  • Life cycles and reproduction in plants and animals, along with adaptations for survival

  • Earth’s systems including soil, water, plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes

  • Weather, climate, and the water cycle, and how weather affects living things

  • Energy forms and transfer, as well as everyday uses of energy

  • Forces, motion, and simple machines such as push, pull, friction, levers, and pulleys

  • Matter properties and changes, including mixtures, solutions, and chemical changes

  • Rocks and minerals, focusing on the rock cycle

Through experiments, observations, modeling, and discussions, students will practice asking scientific questions, collecting and interpreting data, and drawing evidence-based conclusions. This course nurtures curiosity, builds critical thinking, and helps learners become confident young scientists ready to explore their world.
