Maloney, who teaches concurrent enrollment English, Advanced Placement Psychology, student government, and English Language Development at Viewmont High School in the Davis School District, embodies the essence of educational excellence. Her dedication to fostering inclusivity and empowerment among her students has earned her accolades both within her district and across the state.

“I don’t think it’s about the content for me. I think it’s about connecting with students and helping them to feel like they belong, helping them to feel like they have a safe place and helping them through those connections to feel like they’re capable,” Maloney expressed.

Maloney’s teaching philosophy revolves around creating a nurturing environment where every student feels valued and supported. Her classroom is not merely a space for academic learning but a sanctuary for personal growth and resilience.

“I want all of my students to know that they have a safe place at school where they belong, their voice matters, and they can connect with others,” Maloney emphasized.

“I think lessons that help them to see grit in action, help them to apply it back to their life, I think those are always really powerful,” she stated.

Among the finalists for the 2024 Utah Teacher of the Year were Maxwell Eddington, an eighth-grade math teacher at Midvale Middle School, and Stephanie Parish, a kindergarten teacher at Mountainside Elementary.
