 Science Educator Taniece Thompson-Smith Named the 2024 Texas Teacher of the Year Stafford Elementary’s halls are buzzing with pride and excitement as Taniece Thompson-Smith, a dedicated fifth-grade science teacher, receives the prestigious title of the 2024 Texas Teacher of the Year. The Texas Association of School Administrators has recognized her outstanding contributions to education, highlighting her unwavering commitment to her students’ success and her innovative teaching methods.

Earlier, Taniece Thompson-Smith had been named the Teacher of the Year for Stafford Elementary, Abilene Independent School District (ISD) and the Region 14 Education Service Center.

With over 14 years of teaching experience, Thompson-Smith’s journey as an educator has been nothing short of remarkable. Her passion for teaching extends beyond the classroom walls, as she has taught in multiple school districts across the United States, Jamaica and Japan, due to her role as a military spouse. This diverse experience has equipped her with a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the importance of education in shaping young minds.

Thompson-Smith’s approach to teaching is rooted in the belief that every encounter with a child should be transformational, sparking curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. Her dedication to fostering a love for learning among her students has earned her the admiration of both colleagues and educational leaders alike.

Other finalists for the title of Texas Teacher of the Year include Dr. Isela Russell of Lewisville ISD and Genesis Yougas of McKinney ISD, all of whom have demonstrated exceptional commitment to education and student success.
