Talofofo Elementary’s Stephane Concepcion is the 2023 Guam Teacher of the Year

Talofofo Elementary’s Stephane Concepcion is the 2023 Guam Teacher of the Year  Stephane Concepcion, a fourth grade teacher at Talofofo Elementary School in Guam, has been named the 2023 Guam Teacher of the Year. This remarkable achievement is a testament to Concepcion’s unwavering commitment to education and her tireless efforts in making a difference in the lives of her students.

“I accept it (2023 Guam Teacher of the Year award) in honor of our community here in Guam, the entre island. I also accept it for all the faculty and staff, and students in my school,” Concepcion said during the presentation ceremony.

Stephane Concepcion’s lifelong aspiration to become an educator propelled her to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in early childhood and elementary education at the University of Guam. After graduation, she became a teacher and an instructional coach at Talofofo Elementary School. She later pursued further education, earning two master’s degrees in reading and in education administration and supervision from the University of Guam.

With over 16 years of experience molding young minds, the Guam Teacher of the Year has established herself as a teacher leader and actively participates in various committees and initiatives aimed at improving the educational system. She collaborates extensively with her colleagues, students, parents, and the community. Concepcion firmly believes in the power of education and instills a love for learning in every student she encounters.

Superintendent Jon Fernandez conveyed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you for your willingness to represent Guam, our students, teachers, and schools in Washington, D.C., as well as any national and local events.”

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero also commended Concepcion’s passion for teaching saying, “This is an important and honorable day to celebrate Stephane … I think Talofofo Elementary School is one of the best public schools and don’t let anyone tell you that we don’t have talented and smart kids going to our public schools, and that’s because we have great teachers like Stephane.

The acknowledgment of Concepcion’s exemplary teaching abilities also extended to Ceferino Duaroson Jr., who was awarded the inaugural “People’s Choice Award” based on community votes. Superintendent Jon Fernandez and Foundation for Public Education Chairwoman Maria Leon Guerrero expressed their appreciation for all the finalists and their unwavering dedication to shaping the future of Guam.
