Steps to Solve Word Problems

3️⃣ Choose the Right Operation – Decide if you need to add, subtract, multiply, or divide.
4️⃣ Write a Math Equation – Convert the word problem into a math sentence.
5️⃣ Solve the Equation – Do the math calculation carefully.
6️⃣ Check Your Answer – Make sure the solution makes sense in the context of the problem.
Example: Solving a Word Problem
🔹 Problem: Sarah has 12 apples. She gives 5 apples to her friend. How many apples does she have left?
✅ Step 1: Read the problem carefully.
✅ Step 2: Identify important information:
Total apples = 12
Apples given away = 5
We need to find how many apples are left.
✅ Step 3: The word “left” means we need to subtract.
✅ Step 4: Write the equation: 12 – 5 = ?
✅ Step 5: Solve: 12 – 5 = 7
