Directions & Location

We use directions to tell someone where to go. We use location to describe where a person, place, or object is.

The four main directions are north, south, east, and west. These are called the cardinal directions. A compass rose on a map shows these directions.

We can use directions to describe the location of places. For example, a school may be north of a park. A library may be east of a school. A store may be south of a library.

We also use words such as near, far, above, below, left, and right to describe locations.
